Obituary notes for Verna Mae Dubble
A 24-year-old Harrisburg man, charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a former Myerstown man and his daughter, will appear in a Harrisburg police court Thursday morning to answer the charges. Harrisburg city police identified the man as Jackie Bismark Walker, 24, 1128 S. Cameron St., Harrisburg. He was also charged with the theft of an auto license plate. Walker was named as the driver of a car involved in an accident which resulted In the deaths of Henry G. Dabble, 69, and his daughter, Mrs. Verna M. Lightner, 49, both of Camp Hill and former residents of Myerstown. Both were passengers in a car operated by the dead woman's husband, Walter T. Lightner, who is reported in "apparently satisfactory" condition at the Harrisburg Hospital. Walker is in police custody at the Harrisburg city jail in lieu of $1,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear before Alderman Joseph Demma, Harrisburg, with whom the charges were filed. Harrisburg Police Chief C. Preston Price said Walker is also being charged with the theft of the license plate used on the car involved in the fatal accident. He said the plate was reported stolen Dec. 5 from a car owned by A. L. Atchley, Camp Hill, while it was parked on a Harrisburg street. Released from custody after questioning was Tyrone Leon Moody, 23, Harrisburg. Moody and Walker accused each other of operating the car. Police said charges prepared against Moody for failure to stop at the scene of an accident are being dismissed. The car in question was traveling south on Cameron Street and struck the rear of the Lightner station wagon, causing it to run out of control and crash into a tree in the 1200 block of Cameron Street. The other car was found about two blocks from the scene in the middle of Cameron Street, where it had been abandoned. Police said Walker turned up at the scene minutes later and identified himself as the owner of the car. At that time he told investigators that the car had been stolen from his home. Dubble and the Lightners were reportedly enroute to Lancaster to visit his son, Harry Dubble, for a belated Christmas dinner. Combined funeral services will be held for Dubble and his daughter Thursday morning at the funeral home at 2445 Walnut St., Penbrook, the same time at which Walker is scheduled to appear for the hearing. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Ray Kurtz, and the Rev. Frank Layser of the Myerstown Church of the Brethren and the Rev. Jay F. Ebersole, pastor of the Fourth United Church of Christ, Harrisburg. Dubble had been a member of the Myerstown Church and retired sexton at the Harrisburg Church. He will be buried at the Heidelberg Church of the Brethren Cemetery following services at the Myerstown church. Mrs. Lightner will be buried in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township following services at the funeral home. [Lebanon Daily News, December 29, 1964, Page 24]
