Obituary notes for Russell John Spangler
Russell J. Spangler, 84, Palmyra, passed away Saturday June 3, 2006 at Countryside Christian Community, N. Annville Twp. He was the husband of the late Dorothy I. Shuey Spangler. Born in Jonestown December 25, 1921, he was the son of the late John and Mary Dubbs Spangler. He retired form the M.S. Hershey Schools where he had worked for over 40 years. He served in the US Army during WW II. He was a very active member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Palmyra. He served as a Deacon and an Elder, and served on the Building Committee, the Consistory, and as Sunday School Treasurer. He was involved with the Men's Group and for many years he was the groundskeeper at the church. He was a member of Brownstone Masonic Temple, and he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He is survived by son R. John Spangler, Jr. and his wife Stephanie of Palmyra, daughters Nancy A. wife of David Ebersole of Palmyra, Frances E. wife of Steven Long of Palmyra and Barbara J. wife of Mark Curry of Hummelstown; brother Kenneth Spangler of Mt. Zion; sister M. Arlene Long of Jonestown; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Lester and Harry Spangler and a sister Florence Kreider. Funeral June 7, at Trinity UCC, Palmyra. Masonic service Tuesday evening. Interment Gravel Hill Cemetery.
