Obituary notes for Robert W. Crouse
9 July 1925: Robert W. Crouse, one of Myerstown's best known residents, died yesterday afternoon at the Hahnemann Hospital, at Philadelphia. Four weeks ago, Mr. Crouse was operated on for appendicitis and for a time it was thought he would be restored to health. However, complications developed and since Sunday it was known that his condition was grave. On Monday noon his wife, daughter and C. S. Line were summoned to his bedside and they and Harry Liebovitz, of the firm of S. Liebovitz & Sons, with whom Mr. Crouse was so long associated, were with him to the end. The late Mr. Crouse for a number of years has been the General Manager of the large shirt manufacturing plant of the Liebovitz firm, at this place. He was with them since they located here, starting as foreman of the pressing department and advancing by various steps to the position he held up to the time of his illness. He had the confidence of his employers to a marked degree, always working for their best interests and at the same time, was very popular with the employees. When the news of his death reached the factory late yesterday afternoon, there was gloom everywhere and there were many expressions of sorrow at the outcome of his illness. Throughout the town sympathy was expressed as he was universally liked. Mr. Crouse was aged about 41 years and had been in ill health for some time, and the operation was undertaken with the hope of relief. His wife and one daughter, Catherine, at home, survive as do also a sister and brother, Mrs. Lizzie Tice, of Lebanon, and Harry Y. Crouse, of Columbus, Ohio. The deceased was a consistent member of the Myerstown Reformed church, and was a member of the Board of Trustees. He was serving his second term as a Borough Councilman and was the President of that body, and was also affiliated with these fraternal organizations: The Lebanon Lodge of Elks; Myerstown Lodge No. 358, I. O. O. P., Myerstown Encampment No. 149, I. O. O.F., Tulpehocken Council, No. 841, Order of Independent Americans and Camp No. 64, P. O. S. of A. He was a member of the Keystone Fire Company since his youth and also of the Firemen's Aid Association, being the second member to die since the organization was started, a little over two years ago. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. [Lebanon Daily News]
