Notes for Angus H. Douple
Notes on paintings. While entitled "Roberts Covered Bridge" I believe it is actually the Walkers Mill bridge in Somerset, Pennsylvania. The artist, Angus Douple taught art at the college level in the Washington County area. This oil on canvas is dated 1983 and remains in pristine condition.
This is a mid-century 50's original watercolor. The painting portrays the moving of lumber by a Water Buffalo pulled cart in Burma. The size of the tree trunk, or extremely large branch, looks like quite the challenge for the driver. The Artist signed this painting Angus Douple 1955. The research I did shows him as a Pennsylvania Artist.
The back of the painting reads: Water Buffalo watercolor made in Burma in 1954 while teaching at Mandalay S.C. Angus Douple, Malden Coal Center Rd. PA. So, it appears that painting was done in Burma (today also known as Mandalay) in 1954 and signed by the artist in 1955.
