Notes for Samual Meyer Bross
22 May 1970: Samuel M. Bross, 72, Myerstown RD 1, died Thursday morning while visiting his son, Carl, also of Myerstown RD 1. Born in Bethel Township, he was a son of the late Daniel and Sarah Ann Meyer Bross. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Bethel Township School Authority of Berks County. He was also a Sunday School teacher and a trustee and treasurer of the Meyer Church of the Brethren, Hamlin. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Demmy Bross, in 1929. A son, Levi, was killed in action in World War II. In addition to his son, Carl, survivors include his wife, Naomi R. Ziegler Bross; three other sons, Harlan, Lebanon RD 2; Herman, Myerstown RD 1, and Elmer, Bethel. Eight daughters: Mildred, wife of Light M. Bomberger, Lebanon; Sarah, wife of Charles W. Hess, Ridley Park; Lydia, wife of Richard P. Gibble, and Lois, wife of Gerhard Reinhard, both of Myerstown RD 1; Ruth, wife of Wayne Bohrer, Rockville, Md.; Fay, wife of Russell Kowalchik, Bellwood; Carol, wife of Michael Nestarizk, Danville RD 2, and Dorothy E. Bross, Wernersville. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jacob, Quentin, and two sisters, Rebecca Bross, Annville, and Mrs. Lydia Muth, Myerstown RD 3. Naomi R. Bross, 86, formerly of Myerstown R. D. 1, died Friday morning in the Brethren Village, Neffsville, where she had resided since 1971. She was the widow of Samuel M. Bross, who died in 1970. Born in Royersford, Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Levi C. and Sarah L. (Hoffman) Ziegler. She had been employed as an elementary school teacher in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, from 1918 to 1920; Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, from 1920 to 1924. And North Cornwall Township, Lebanon County, from 1924 to 1930; Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County, from 1930 to 1932, and in Tulpehocken Township from 1957 until her retirement in 1965. A graduate of Elizabethtown College, she was a member of Mount Zion (Road) Church of the Brethren, Lebanon R. D. 6. Surviving are five daughters: Sarah J., wife of Charles W. Hess, Etters; Ruth J., wife of Wayne Bohrer, Sterling, Va., and G. Fay Kowalchik, Bellwood. And Lois A., wife of Gerhard P. Reinhard, Myerstown R.D. 1, and Carol A. wife of Bernard Bindel, Saugus, Calif. A son, Carl J, Bross, Myerstown R. D. 1, and two stepsons: Harlan Bross, Lebanon R.D. 6, and Elmer Bross, Bethel. Three stepdaughters: Dorothy Bross, Wernersville; Mildred, wife of Light Bomberger, Lebanon, and Lydia, wife of Richard P. Gibble, Myerstown R.D.1. Thirty-four grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Hannah, wife of Levi Wagner, Neffsville. Also four brothers: Monroe and Samuel Ziegler, both of Neffsville; Jesse Ziegler, Hershey, and Levi Ziegler, Collegeville. The Hill Funeral Home, Rehrersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
